The story of Asa (Pronounced Asha) begins in Lagos, Nigeria where she found a home in her father’s extensive and eclectic collection of records from soul classics to traditional Nigerian music. Starting to sing at a young age, Asa was inspired by the sounds and messages of artists such as Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey who served as touchstones when she later began crafting her own songs. Wellington was born in the United States to Nigerian parents, but the family moved back to Lagos Nigeria when he was five years old where he began singing in his church choir at the age of 8. Omawumi was born on the 13th of April 1982 to late Chief Dr. Frank Anirejuoritse Megbele and Mrs Aya Queen Megbele. From childhood Omawumi had been known to be a playful, energetic, intelligent and extremely talented child as she was already a lead vocalist in the children’s choir of Foursquare Gospel Church in Warri at the age of 8.
Omawumi had her primary education in Nana Primary School Warri and her secondary education in College of Education Demonstration Secondary School where she was a member of their press club, head of primrose choir and drama group. In 1999 after she left secondary school she went on to study law at Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma Edo State.

A graduate of political science from Lagos State University, Ọ̀jọ́, he started loving music in 1989. He had his own songs done in 1991 and released a CD, which had two tracks. The two songs got massive air play, but in 2002, Ruggedman felt Nigerian rappers (such as Rasqie,Eedris Abdulkareem, Maintain and many others) lacked talent and he needed to do something about it. He was the most controversial musician at that time and that won him a lot of awards.
One of his controversial tracks is Big Bros. This diss track was attacking the CEOs of Kennis Music Keke Ogungbe and Dayo "D1" Adeneye. He also hit harder than anyone could have imagined when he said "the fact that you have (got) money doesn't mean you can toy with me" reasons being that he felt that the CEOs were politicizing the industry and barring other acts from proving their skills. He did not attack rappers such as Modenine, 2-Shotz, Freestyle, Six Foot+ possibly because he saw them as rappers who use words, because that was what he advised Edris Abdulkareem - "try use words, and u might sound nice, but not as precise as my guys you see in front of your eyes". He is from the Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria.
He has however made up with all the people he has dissed in the past save for Mode Nine.

Duncan Daniels is a 26yr Old American musician, producer, and song writer of Nigerian origin. Born in Boston Massachusetts and raised in England and Nigeria. Later moved back to the states in his early 20's to study Music Production & Engineering at Berkley College of Music in Boston Massachusetts. Duncan Daniels brings to life a very diverse mix of Pop, Rock, and R&B and brings a unique and versatile style of musicianship into the industry to suit the modern urban radio era.
Duncan Daniels who started writing music and playing the piano at the age of 11, accredits his interests to artists such as U2, Bon Jovi, and even the late great Michael Jackson. At the age of 15, he started producing music and has worked with various Record labels and production companies worldwide. His debut album was released in 2006 entitled “I Don Taya”. A 12 track album that holds till today classic tunes such as "Will Tomorrow Ever Come", "Take me Home" to name a few. Oluwadare Art Alade aka “DAREY” is a multi talented, multiple award winning Nigerian International R&B recording artist, performer, TV presenter, radio DJ and OAP who rose to more prominent fame in 2004 following his participation in Project Fame in South Africa.
Darey was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria by Olapeju & Modupeola Art Alade. His path to eminence started in 1998, when during a performance at the Cowry restaurant, Bjays Hotel Victoria Island, a top member of Cool FM management saw potential in him and invited him to the radio station.
A determined teenager that he was, Darey began shuttling between Cool FM and the University of Lagos where he was studying Creative Arts. During his stay in Cool FM, he had the ample opportunity to acquire the basic knowledge of radio presentation, production and marketing. His big break finally came at the 2004 MNET project fame academy where he emerged second runner up. His debut album ‘From Me 2 U’ hit the Nigerian market in 2006, with songs like ‘Fuji’ and ‘Escalade’ enjoying massive airplay in the Nigerian and International media. In fact, ‘Original Naija’ one of the songs from his debut album was the theme song for the first ever Big Brother Nigeria reality show.
In 2007, Darey left Storm Records- the label he was signed to and joined Soul Muzik, his current label. Coming closely was the debut of two of his videos ‘With This Woman’ and ‘Carry Dey Go’ ft 2face on MTV base.
In 2008, he went on to prove to skeptics that he didn’t intend to be a flash in the pan when he hosted Project Fame West Africa. The following year he hosted The Future Awards & the SMVAs.
He has over the years shared the stage with the most prominent names in music worldwide including Beyonce, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Lionel Richie, Kci & Jojo, Joe, Shakira, John Legend, Femi Kuti, Akon, P Diddy, Lagbaja, Rihanna, Usher, Sean Paul, Diana Ross, Earth Wind & Fire, Lemar, Eve, Lucky Dube, Fat Joe, T-Pain, 50 Cent, Alicia Keys and has chatted with world leaders like Bill Clinton and Kofi Annan.

Profile of the week: GENERAL PYPE (02-01-2011) Beyond the dreadlocks, his distinct style is redefining the Caribbean sound with strong influences from his Nigerian identity. The music of this singer, songwriter and songstylist can be defined as reggae fusion which willingly incorporates elements of hip-hop, rock-pop and R&B into the riddims of reggae and dancehall. He calls his a “tube-sound” carried by striking vocals that capture a forest of emotions and textures—This is Pype.
Originally from Abeokuta in Ogun State, Nigeria, Ibrahim Majekodunmi was raised in Lagos. At the source of his unmistakable voice is a combination of nature and nurture. Having been introduced to singing in church, he joined an acapella group at St Gregory’s Secondary School, Obalende in 1998. The formation grew into a 30-man classical/opera choir, The Triumphant Chorale Voices, which became one of the top three classical groups in Nigeria under the aegis of ASP Mike Ohiri. Pype, who was then known as Majek, still draws from a classical tradition that forced him to train his voice with the rigor of an opera singer, pushing his vocal capacities to a breaking point, translating emotion into the language of notes without the luxury of gimmicks. The group performed at the Eagle Square Abuja to usher in the new Millennium. Pype delivered solo performances as the choir’s bass singer accompanied by The Grand Chamber Orchestral which accomplished the rare feat of rendering all three parts of George F. Handel’s Messiah. As he came of age, it became easier to extend lessons from the classical genre into something that gave him more creative license. His unique stamp has pumped a dose of adrenaline into the sounds of highlife pioneer Sunny Neji (“Crush”), hip-hop Diva Sasha (“Strong thin”), Niyola (“Mo Ranyan”), MI (“teaser”) and Sheyman (“Showa remix”). His desire: “To make music that inspires and uplifts, make people think and dance there is nothing wrong with following your dreams. Music and timeless lyrics are my passion— I breathe for this.” says Pype. Among his biggest influences are Beethoven, Frank Sinatra, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Bob Marley, U-Roy, fierce Dancehall pioneers Supercat, Shabba Ranks, Spragga Benz, Sizzla and Beenie Man. As a performer, he has shared the stage with Nigerian and international artists including Sean Paul, Akon, and the duo of Brick & Lace to name a few.
At the 2009 edition of MTVBase Music Awards hosted by Wyclef Jean in Kenya, Pype stunned the audience with his power-packed performance of “Teaser” with MI and South Africa’s Lira. Also, his newest single, “Champion”, a brass-driven dancehall tune that could easily serve as a world anthem has been getting rave reviews.

From Pype’s perspective, if “Champion” were a person, it would be you, with black stripes under your eyes, wearing a camouflage uniform and heavy-duty boots, standing with confidence in front your life’s biggest obstacle. Champion is the 20th century world anthem. “Champion is a gift from my soul to everyone across the globe. Don’t look at the limitations. Pursue your goals.” The music video was directed by Bobby Boulders and shot in Obalende-Lagos where Pype was raised. “The world needs to see where I’m from. They (The people of Obalende) are champions that gave birth to a champion.”
A perfectionist, Pype is currently putting finishing touches to his much anticipated debut album and Podium Vybez and Storm 360 have combined forces to ensure that it hits the world stage. With his enthralling vibes wedded to lush melodies, he is fast becoming a major force and one of the few artists leading the progressive movement of reggae and dancehall in Africa by expanding its reach without diluting the core values of this ageless genre of music.
