CHOC BOYS - Ice Prince, M.I, Jesse Jagz closing the show at the 2011 NEA Awards in New York |
During the ceremony, the SIMMS (Sustainable International Medical Missions) were honored with the NEA Humanitarian Award for their charitable efforts in Nigeria. The SIMMS are a group of doctors who use their talent to make a difference in Nigeria by providing free healthcare to individuals in certain areas of Nigeria...(READ MORE)
...As host Julius Agwu pointed out, many shopping malls, and businesses are opening around the country, but not many of these malls/business places have ramps or provide any assistance for the disable. “Disability is NOT incapability”.
With Funke Akindele, and Julius Agwu as hosts, you KNOW there were lots of laughter in the room. Not only did both hosts have their own dance-off, but they also remixed a couple of songs, and debated on who ran the world, as Beyonce’s “Who Runs The World” played in the background. As funke pointed out that GIRLS ran the world, Julius made it a point of mentioning that the BOYS ran the girls. Funke retaliated by asking: WHO BORN THE BOYS???”, but Julius came back with “WHO PUT IT IN??” In the end i guess you could say the guys won that battle…. NOT!. (It isn’t over just yet)
Live Band and Performances
The live band made the performance more original and tasty – you know its impossible to lip-sync to a live band.
R& B singer Zaina gave a good account of herself when she performed her new single. And With a lot of soul, Waje performed two of her songs, and a very famous cover song. Jesse Jagz got on the drum set while MI was on the mic, rocking the attendees, who were all on their feet. The Choc-Boys closed the show as fellow artists came up on stage, and gave us an exclusive all-star remix to Ice Prince’s “Oleku”.
Other performers of the night were, Tmoney, Duncan Daniels, Doggext, Rotimi, Zaina
Unannounced
Because time was running out, some award categories were neither presented nor announced, notably:ENTERTAINMENT PROMOTER (won by TiwaWorks), BEST U.S. BASED FEMALE ARTIST (Won by Naira)
The “Red Carpet,” oh the Blue One
The red carpet part of the ceremony didn’t really get going for various reasons:
Many of the performers and nominees that were expected to grace the carpet, either came late or some how evaded the carpet area.
I’d also like to point out that it was in fact a blue carpet, and not a red one :/
***UPDATE***
The ‘Red’ carpet was blue because of major sponsor, SPINLET. The company is hosting winners of two categories with an opportunity to record an all-expense paid video and trip to the beautiful Island of Jamaica with Dancehall king BEENIE MAN. Both the winners and Beenie Man will record a single that will be widely distributed. All the winners NEA 2011
