Another one bites the dust: Christy Essien Igbokwe passes on at 51

Christy Essien-Igbokwe passed on after falling ill. The first female PMAN president died today at the age of 51. Regarded as the lady of songs, the late singer is known for the popular song ‘Seun Rere’.
During her heyday she was the grand dame of Nigerian pop music, and nicknamed the ‘First Lady of Song’.
She began her musical career in Secondary School singing at various clubs. In 1976 she joined the satirical NTA series Masquerade. Her short role in that popular sitcom put her to the limelight and in 1977 she launched a professional music career, aged 17. Many of her albums became hit records, but none came close to the success of her 1981 hit album ‘Ever Liked My Person’ produced by Lemmy Jackson

Family members have confirmed reports of her death. Cause of death is not yet known but the singer was diagnosed with hole-in-heart during her first pregnancy which she was quoted to have said miraculously got healed. She is survived by her husband and four children including Kaka, an artise.
